Heartworm

Heartworm is a life-threatening disease that can affect a number of mammals, it is primarily seen in dogs. It is transmitted when a mosquito who has bitten an infected dog bites a healthy dog.
Clinical symptoms of heartworm may include:
Mild to severe cough
Weight loss
Laboured breathing
Exercise intolerance
Heart failure
Some dogs however can be asymptomatic.
Heartworm testing is very important and should be done in dogs over 6 months of age. Routine testing ensures early diagnosis and treatment.

Heartworm is easier to prevent than to treat. Being in a heartworm endemic area, we recommend using monthly preventative as essential protection against deadly heartworm disease.
